The Perfect Silence of the Stars: Marine Navigation in the Early American Navy

  • Minnesota Marine Art Museum 800 Riverview Dr. Winona United States (map)

Have you ever wondered how ships were able to navigate the world’s oceans in the days before GPS? Winona State University Professor and MMAM board member Greg Neidhart will take a look at the tools and techniques used to navigate the seas during the early days of the United States Navy. Included in the presentation will be historic examples of these tools, rarely on display, from MMAM’s collection. The lecture is presented in conjunction with the exhibition Maarten Platje: The Early History of the U.S. Navy, on display May 3 - August 18, 2019.
