Ride the Wave participants play with art materials, explore the connections between creativity and health, and what it means to "ride the wave." The thought-provoking experiential activities are designed to encourage connections with ourselves and other humans.

Enjoy live music in the MMAM Gardens this summer with the Mississippi Sippin Concert Series. While you are here, find a curated selection of spirited and non-spirited beverages, food trucks outside along the Mississippi River, and then, venture into the galleries (open late until 8pm) to see how exhibiting artists are using water as inspiration for their work.

Art is for everyone! Join the Minnesota Marine Art Museum quarterly for Seasonal Saturday. With $1 admission for all, this is a fun and lively day to visit the museum for first-time visitors and experienced museum-goers alike.

A unique program designed specifically for people with memory loss and their care partners. SPARK! programs offer participants an opportunity to enhance their quality of life through social engagement, mental stimulation, and communication.

A lively gathering of our littlest art lovers and the grown-ups at the Minnesota Marine Art Museum. Toddler Tuesday offers hands-on art activities such as painting with marbles, drawing, and butterfly making. There are also opportunities for free-play, storytelling, and a chance for toddlers and their grown-ups to take a self-guided exploration of artworks in the galleries.

Immerse yourself in the traditional art of willow basketry! Join us for a hands-on workshop where you’ll learn to weave your very own baskets using homegrown willow. You'll learn from Zac Fittipaldi, with nearly two decades of experience, he has guided students to create hundreds of beautiful baskets.

This "Create a Character" workshop invites kids to unleash their imagination and bring unique characters to life through illustration. Through guided exercises and creative prompts, attendees will learn to draw characters with distinct personalities. We'll explore facial structure, how to incorporate unique features, and develop their character to enhance storytelling skills.

Join us for a fun night out at this Craft + Cocktail workshop on Thursday, February 13 from 6-8pm. You’ll craft unique cocktails with a Water Bar mixologist, enjoying each sip as you create a new craft. Under the guidance of Lindsay Krage, you'll also design and block print your own custom bar towel, perfectly paired with your cocktails!
This class is for ages 21+ and includes one beverage from MMAM Water Bar (non-alcoholic options available) materials and guidance to print one bar towel, and admission to the Minnesota Marine Art Museum. Students may bring their own textiles if they wish to print more.

Join MMAM on Thursday, May 16, for our Annual Report to the Community. We will gather to share how our mission-based work as a nonprofit visual arts museum has impacted the audiences we serve, announce a few highlights to look out for in the coming year, and acknowledge the individuals and partners who made it all possible.

Join us at MMAM on September 21 for the 2024 For the Love of Water Gala. This event, hosted at MMAM will feature a cocktail hour, seated dinner, and an auction. Enjoy a lovely September evening at the museum, and help MMAM move its mission forward!

The Plein Air Experience: Sketching Winona brings you four exciting days of plein air art making on the Upper Mississippi River, featuring a signature studio arts workshop led by Urban Sketchers advocate Kar-Keat Chong, an opening launch event, artist-led sketch walks, and a chance to close it all down by seeing what was created over the weekend at a closing reception.

MMAM + River Arts Alliance are coming together to bring you a monthly informal artist exchange - a chance for artists and creatives from across a variety of mediums to gather for inspiration, exploration and exchange at the museum

MMAM + the Winona Symphony Orchestra present Water Music: Chamber Concerts at the MMAM, a series of chamber music concerts in an intimate, refined setting among the galleries. These performances are jointly programmed to spotlight both the visual treasures of MMAM and musical masterworks unified by a common theme.

Exhibition Programming

There are two programs associated with MMAM's newest exhibition project, A Nation Takes Place. including a curator's reception and book launch, and a lunch and learn event.

Join legendary sculptor Judy Onofrio (American, b. 1939) for a special artist talk around her exhibition Deep Dive - a 4,000 square foot exhibition featuring nearly 30 works of art, including a body of new work reflecting on her childhood and earliest memories of living near the ocean.
