The Winona Symphony Orhestera (WSO) and the Minnesota Marine Art Museum (MMAM) are pleased to announce a new chamber music series inspired by the collections of MMAM. Join us as members of the WSO perform small ensemble pieces in the galleries of the Museum. The performance will begin with a brief talk by a MMAM curator, with WSO Music Director Erik Rodhe discussing the connection between the paintings and the music selection. Following the performance, there will be a wine reception in the Museum’s atrium that includes a complementary beverage.
The theme for our inaugural MMAM and WSO chamber music concert is the "Boston Six Meets the Hudson River School." MMAM's most complete collection of art centers around artists of the Hudson River School, a mid-19th Century American art movement influenced by Romanticism, and centered geographically around the Hudson River Valley and surrounding area. At the very same time in the Boston area were a group of composers who became known as the "Boston Six," who similarly were inspired by a Romantic musical language, but distinctly with an American musical dialect. In this elegant evening of art and chamber music, we will highlight a few of the MMAM's Hudson River School paintings, and present two works by "Boston Six" composers Amy Beach and George Chadwick. Join us for an evening exploring the intersection of art and classical music.

George Chadwick: String Quartet No. 4
