Sacred Waters

Photography by John Stanmeyer

July 1, 2013 - October 27, 2013

All across the world in religious and spiritual practice, doctrine, and blessed events, there are aspects related to water. This may be related to a specific location, like the Ganges River of India, or water seen as a symbol for life or rebirth as seen in many aspects of Catholicism. While we share one earth and many related gods, water is also a tie that binds humans through religious and spiritual practice. August through October at the Minnesota Marine Art Museum is dedicated to exploring this human spirituality and religiousness in relation to water.

Visitors can experience this through two partner exhibitions – The St. John’s Bible and Sacred Waters: Photographs from National Geographic Society. Sacred Waters features the photography of John Stanmeyer, who travelled the world in search of the many ways different cultures relate to water.

Sacred Waters is produced and traveled by National Geographic.
