Morgan Family Foundation Grant Funds New Position at MMAM: Curator of Climate and Clean Energy
At the Minnesota Marine Art Museum (MMAM), we believe that preserving and celebrating art goes hand in hand with protecting our natural world. As a cultural institution situated along the Mississippi River, we are deeply committed to sustainability, reducing our carbon footprint, and our role in the global effort to combat climate change.
Thanks to the support of the Morgan Family Foundation, which has made mitigating global warming a central focus, MMAM is proud to announce a new position the museum: Curator of Climate and Clean Energy.
Leading by Example: The Curator of Climate and Clean Energy will spearhead transformative projects that place sustainability at the core of MMAM’s operations. Some of their priorities will include:
Harnessing Solar Power: Developing a plan for rooftop solar array to meet a significant portion of our energy needs.
Rainwater Harvesting: Coordinating a plan for capturing and utilizing rainwater to reduce our water consumption and environmental impact.
Geothermal Energy Exploration: Incorporating geothermal solutions into our campus development plan.
These initiatives are designed to align MMAM with a bold goal: achieving carbon neutrality by 2030.
Sharing Knowledge, Inspiring Action: Our new curator will do more than innovate within our walls. They will help MMAM serve as a pilot program, sharing findings and replicable strategies with other museums exploring clean energy initiatives. Additionally, MMAM will host convenings for local businesses and nonprofits, offering resources and actionable insights to inspire broader community engagement in sustainability.
Art as a Catalyst for Change: The Curator of Climate and Clean Energy will collaborate with our Engagement and Program team to create immersive, educational art experiences. These programs will empower our visitors to take meaningful steps toward combating climate change—fostering a ripple effect of awareness and action far beyond our galleries.
We invite you to join us on this journey. Stay tuned for updates on our progress, and learn more about how MMAM is combining art, education, and environmental stewardship to create a brighter, more sustainable future.
