Our season closes with another interactive event, featuring a festive performance of the work that inspired the vision of the entire series, George Frideric Handel’s Water Music. The wonderful Winona Symphony Orchestra musicians masterfully embrace this momentous work that encapsulates the close connection between music and nature. Handel’s timeless music speaks to all audiences and will bring to life a season of sun, warmth, and delight.

Winona’s famous piano duo brings us ‘en bateau’ (French for ‘in a boat’) through a romantic program exploring water, boat rides, and beautiful melodies. The Minnesota Marine Art Museum’s new rotating exhibit Fluid: What is Marine Art and What Can it Be?, offers a companion to the music that invokes images of Venetian gondoliers and rocking, swaying vessels in which audiences can envision themselves sailing on majestic waters.

Come celebrate a one-day exhibit featuring Christmas and Winter-themed artwork from the Minnesota Marine Art Museum collection. This concert will be a classical Christmas celebration featuring the famous Corelli Christmas Concerto and an Advent Cantata by J.S. Bach with the Winona State University Concert Chorale. It is sure to be a joyous celebration of the holiday season that will draw listeners into the exhilaration and magic of Christmas.

The first collaborative concert of the Water Music season will entertain with elation and elegance. Paired with a new museum exhibition titled A Nation Takes Place, musicians from the Apollo Music Festival in Houston, MN, will present a program that takes the audience through a complex and nuanced history of the United States.

The Minnesota Marine Art Museum is excited to partner with the Winona Symphony Orchestra to bring you Water Music, evenings that marry two art forms and celebrate their shared inspiration.

Singer and multi-instrumentalist, Sam Amidon, takes to the banks of the Mississippi for a performance of radically reimagined interpretations of the folk songs for which he is known. Joined by members of the Winona Symphony Orchestra and special guests, Amidon and ensemble present a wholly original blend of the old and the new. Featuring newly commissioned arrangements by composers Katherine Bergman, Manami Kakudo, and Darian Donovan Thomas (all first-time collaborators) as well as both new and old orchestrations by Nico Muhly, the program highlights new explorations into traditional American music amidst the spectacular backdrop of the Mississippi.
