Tour. Dine. Enjoy.
Join us for a very special late summer evening at the Minnesota Marine Art Museum (MMAM) with marine biologist and ceramic artist Courtney Mattison, and the curators for Mattison’s solo exhibition Undercurrent. This dinner event celebrates the conclusion of Courtney Mattison: Undercurrent (on view through Sunday, September 3, 2023), and gives you a chance to meet the artist, dine on a meal inspired by the exhibition, and tour with the curators.
Begin your evening with a private tour of the exhibition led by Curator of Collections & Exhibitions, Jon Swanson, Associate Curator of Exhibitions and Engagement, Dave Casey, and artist Courtney Mattison. Then, sit down with the curators and the artist for a 3-course sustainably harvested meal, with beverage pairings, prepared by chef Doug Dahlgren of the Chef’s Table. Each serving for the evening is dramatically dressed up to draw connections between the artistic culinary achievements of the chef and the creative expressions of the artist.

About the Artist
COURTNEY MATTISON
Courtney Mattison’s solo exhibition, Courtney Mattison: Undercurrent, is on view at the Minnesota Marine Art Museum from May 5 - September 3, 2023. Mattison creates intricate and large-scale ceramic sculptural works that visualize climate change through the fragile beauty of marine life. Her sculptures inspired by coral reefs depict the delicate beauty found beneath the sea and highlight biodiversity impacted by human activity. After studying marine biology and ceramic sculpture in college and graduate school, Mattison dedicated her career to creating art that calls attention to threats facing the ocean. Her background in marine conservation informs her work, and her advocacy seeks to inspire us to preserve our changing seas. The works in this two-gallery exhibition confronts viewers by bringing them up close and personal to coral reefs and promoting meaningful change needed to protect our underwater ecosystems.
