For two days, artists from the Urban Sketchers Twin Cities Chapter and Urban Sketchers Bluff Country Chapter will come together in Winona to lead sketch walks at five locations around the city on Friday and Saturday. Whether you consider yourself an artist or not, anyone can participate and enjoy any or all of these free opportunities to “Sketch Winona”. No registration is required to experience drawing on location, indoors and out, capturing what we see from direct observation to tell the story of our surroundings in any kind of media that you choose.

Featured Artist: Daniel Green
Daniel grew up drawing in a small town in Minnesota. He has sketched for fun at home and abroad for the past 25 years. He is an architect in Minneapolis. He has represented Urban Sketchers as an instructor for Kansas City Design Week, as a demonstrator at the 7th USK Symposium in Manchester, UK and as an instructor at the 9th USK Symposium in Porto, Portugal.

Bill began his career as an architect, out of which grew his love of sketching and painting. “For me,” he says, “sketching is both meditative and enlightening.” Also a watercolor artist, his paintings have been exhibited in multiple group shows, as well as a solo exhibit at the Robbin Gallery in Robbinsdale, MN. Featured artist: Kar-Keat Chong
Kar-Keat Chong is a Minneapolis-based architect and watercolorist. Trained under local artists in his hometown of Georgetown, Penang, Malaysia when he was fourteen, Kar-Keat resumed his passion for watercolor painting in 2017. His work has been accepted into national and international juried exhibitions such as Audubon Artists of America and Transparent Watercolor Society of America. Besides running his own art and architecture studio, Kar-Keat also teaches watercolor at the University of Minnesota-School of Architecture.

Featured Artist: Pam Luer
Artist, instructor and graphic designer, Pam Luer, is drawn to the outdoors and experimenting with new mediums. Her art has been licensed to products and packaging by retailers like Target and Crate & Barrel. But her first love is sketching in nature. This passion inspired a series of Sketchbook Workshops that she teaches in resorts, botanical gardens and arboretums across the country.

Heather found a passion for urban sketching in 2014 and enjoys working on location by telling the stories of what she sees and experiences with pen, paint, and sketchbooks. She is a member of the Urban Sketchers organization, has sketched in the US and abroad, and has helped lead the Urban Sketchers Twin Cities chapter since 2020.

Featured Artist: Joseph Maurer
Joseph draws from a commitment to ecology and love of place. Joe’s recent shows include a three person group show “Motherly” and a solo immersive exhibit “Animal Dreams” at Pablo Center at the Confluence. Joe’s paintings, public art and landscape designs have garnered wide recognition in the midwest and internationally. Joe has a BFA in Art from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design (1999) and a Masters in Landscape Architecture from the University of Pennsylvania (2004).
