February 10 Schedule of Events

HMong Paj Ntaub Demonstration with Mama Suzanne

[10:00am-12:00pm]

HMong paj ntaub (pronounced "pan dau") means "flower cloth" and is produced by HMong artists. The patterns, symbolic to HMong culture, come from forms in nature and agricultural life. Mama Suzanne learned paj ntaub at the age of seven from her paternal grandmother Mee Xiong and mother Chia Lo. Her mother was a prolific paj ntaub maker whose works are so sharp and precise it is hard to believe they were handmade. Suzanne has kept her mother’s paj ntaub and shares it with her students.  See her work, observe her process, and ask questions in this informal show and tell demonstration. Chuayi Yang, a board member at Hmong Museum, will provide translation and information about Project Paj Ntaub, the longest running program at Hmong Museum.
