Fall Seasonal Saturday: Tales from the Deep 

Saturday, November 8, 2025 | $1 | 10am - 4pm*

* 9:30am-10am: Quiet Art Room
* 4pm: Activities close at 4pm. $1 admission and galleries open until 5pm!
 

Art is for everyone! With $1 admission for all, Seasonal Saturday is a fun and lively day to visit the museum for first-time visitors and experienced museum-goers alike. Inspired by MMAM's exhibition Alexis Rockman: Oceanus, the theme of this Seasonal Saturday is Tales from the Deep. Enjoy wandering the galleries on your own, or join a tour, listen to live music, try your hand at art-making, and play Bingo Overboard, everyone’s favorite search-and-find game - just don’t forget to pick up your prize!


November 8 Schedule of Events

*Quiet Art Room

Oberton Education Room [9:30-10am]

MMAM will open the art-making activity room at 9:30am to offer a quieter environment to minimize distractions and sensory stimulation. Kindly note, the galleries and other activities will not open until 10am.

ART-MAKING

Oberton Education Room [9:30am - 4pm]

Deep Sea Creatures:  Imagine and paint a creature who lives deep in the ocean using watercolors.  For all ages and abilities. (all day) 

Artist Demonstration: Playing in the Paint with Linda Klabo

Atrium [12pm - 2pm]

Watercolor has a mind of its own, so forget about the creation of a masterpiece and simply enjoy what the water, brush and paint will give us as Linda introduces you to basic watercolor materials, equipment and painting techniques.

Hywel Roberts: "People of Newfoundland and Labrador, and Whaling and the Cod Fishery from 1560s-1990"

Spectacle in Motion Gallery [1:45pm - 2:15pm]

Join sailor, fisherman, and storyteller Hywel “Taff” Roberts as he shares tales from his voyages along the coast of Newfoundland and Labrador, retracing both his own 2016 sailing journey and the routes of his seafaring grandfather from the late 1800s. Taff will explore the region’s deep maritime history, from Norse settlements and Basque whaling to centuries of cod fishing. Drawing on visits to UNESCO World Heritage sites like L’Anse aux Meadows and Red Bay, he connects the past and present through stories of exploration, trade, and cultural exchange. Roberts will also introduce an exclusive 11-day guided adventure tour through these historic coastal landmarks.

Advancing the Panorama

Manoogian Gallery [2:30pm - 2:40pm]

Witness the advancement of the longest painting in the United States as we advance another 40 feet of the 1275 foot long Grand Panorama of a Whaling Voyage ‘Round the World at 2pm.

Community Partner: Restoravore

MMAM Family Lounge [10am- 4pm]

Join the Restoravore crew to learn about native plant seeds, collect seeds from our museum gardens (weather permitting), and take some home to grow your own pollinator-friendly plants.

LIVE MUSIC

Gallery 4 [11am + 3pm]

Enjoy live music from  Alexandra Green & Kale Olson-Reed (folk-rock) from 11am - 12pm, and live music from Liberty & Lee (acoustic jazz) from 3 - 4pm.

MMAM Highlights Tour

Atrium [10:15am, 12:15pm, 2:15pm]

Explore, learn, discover, experience, appreciate. Join MMAM docents for an insider's tour of the galleries and a closer look at standout pieces on display.  All tours are 30 minutes and utilize assistive listening devices.  

Curator’s Tour

Atrium [11:15am & 3:15pm]

Explore, learn, discover, experience, appreciate. Join MMAM curators to learn the stories behind the exhibitions.  Both tours are 30 minutes and utilize assistive listening devices.  

Director’s Tour

Atrium [1:15pm]

Explore, learn, discover, experience, appreciate. Join the MMAM Executive Director to learn what’s happening, and what’s coming up at MMAM. This tour is 30 minutes and will utilize assistive listening devices.  

Meet the Artwork

Oceanus gallery [10am -12pm]

 Stop, look and learn.  Take 30 seconds, or 30 minutes to dig into the story of Alexis Rockman’s Oceanus. 

BINGO OVERBOARD

Atrium [10am - 4pm]

Play everyone’s favorite search-and-find gallery game and win a prize.

PROJECT FINE

Atrium [10am - 1pm]

Free transportation to and from the Minnesota Marine Art Museum is available through Winona Area Transit Service’s Dial-A-Ride. Call 507-454-6666 to schedule your ride a few days before you plan to visit, and MMAM will pay your fare upon arrival and provide you with return fare.
