About the Exhibition & MMAM
Currents of Control - Blue in Magic: The Gathering is an exhibition being held in Winona, MN at the Minnesota Marine Art Museum (MMAM) February 20, 2027 - August 22, 2027.
The MMAM's mission is to create meaningful art experiences that explore our relationship with water.
This new full art exhibition is working in collaboration with Wizards of the Coast to increase public awareness of Magic: The Gathering (MTG) and its high quality illustrative art, raising the profile of the field Imaginative Realism and allow enfranchised fans, students, fantasy fans and the general public from all over to visit artworks in Blue. Art being sought is from all over the globe.
This information will not be traded, shared or made known to anyone other than the curatorial team at the Minnesota Marine Art Museum and Mike Linnemann (Vorthos Mike) who all need the list to make selections.

Call for Art Specifics
Dates. Call for art will be up until June 30, 2026. All work is to be shipped on or before January 15, 2027 to the Minnesota Marine Art Museum in Winona, MN unless art is hand delivered. Art will be shown from February 20, 2027 - August 22, 2027 and returned promptly after the show, with full intentions to send as soon as possible.
Conditions of entry. Any person owning art and able to reach a FedEx location will be allowed to enter. Any traditional media will be considered. Art is to be ideally already framed.
Artwork size. Any size work will be considered.
Fees. There is no fee to submit your artwork, and at no cost to you, there will be insurance coverage during transit and on site. Transit/postage cost will also be covered. Personal courier costs of bringing your own art will not be covered, but insurance during personal transit is covered.
Images. Please send an image(s) of your work(s) you wish to submit. Keep images <10 mb each. iPhone etc. photos as jpgs are acceptable. You may submit more than one image.
Insurance. You will need a rough valuation of your painting or artwork for the insurance policies. If you do not have one, contact Mike Linnemann (MikeL@mmam.org) for more information. Transit insurance via FedEx and personal handling is included for both. There will be coverage for replacement, which covers the art if it is stolen or completely destroyed. There will also be restoration coverage, which will reimburse for lost value, such as a required repair that reduces the market value of your piece.
Shipping. We will be using a corporate account from FedEx. There will be exact instructions sent. You will not pay for shipping.
Sales. As a non-profit art museum, the Minnesota Marine Art Museum does not facilitate art sales and does not take a commission on sold artworks. Any works sold as a result of the exhibition will be a private transaction and the loaned works must be displayed for the full dates of the exhibition.
Honorarium. Each artwork selected will receive a $100 honorarium along with free gallery admission to MMAM.
Selecting work. The Minnesota Marine Art Museum Curatorial team will be making final decisions on what artworks will be included. There are a few conditional approvals already out. All submissions will be heard by July 31, 11:59pm CST. The rubric for inclusion will take these factors into consideration: (1) artistic quality, (2) strength of public awareness of the work, (3) card playability/usage in historical or current decks, (4) representation of water/Blue magic.

Form. Please fill out this form once per artwork.
