Dwelling
on view April 1, 2025 - August 31, 2025
In the tradition of the artist’s workshop, the Dwelling Print Project brings community members together for a shared experience. The process started with a conversation about the term “dwelling.” In response to the conversation, each artist created and refined a drawing. Next, the drawings were transferred onto woodblocks, which the artists carved, leaving the relief to be inked and printed. During two long printing days, the artists created editions of fifteen prints from each block. The artists received a print from each block in a portfolio. Through ongoing conversations, amidst drawing, design, and printmaking lessons, each artist created an artist statement. The statements are in response to prompts regarding their motivation and the impact making art has on their well-being. The Dwelling Print Portfolio Exchange Project is a collaboration between the Winona Arts Center Riverbed Press and Hiawatha Valley Mental Health Center. The project was developed and facilitated by Andy Kranz. Andy is an artist, educator, and mental health practitioner who has facilitated multiple drawing groups and art classes while working as a mental health practitioner in Southeast Minnesota.
This community exhibition is presented in partnership with Andy Kranz and Hiawatha Valley Mental Health in the Museum’s Oberton Education Room. The exhibition is available to view during museum hours, unless the room is being used for programming.
