Security Officer II (P/T)

The Minnesota Marine Art Museum (MMAM), a fine arts museum with notable European and American art collections, seeks a qualified applicant for a part-time position, Saturdays and Sundays (approximately 15 hours/week), of Security Officer II to help maintain gallery security and, as a result, quality visitor experience.

Demonstrated success in organizational/asset security, providing public or customer service are required. A valid driver’s license and reliable cell phone service are also required. Associates or Bachelor’s degree, and interest in art are preferred.

Position schedule is Saturdays and Sundays, with the possibility of occasional evening and weekday shifts. Compensation is $13/hour.

Job description

Overview:

The primary duties of the Security Officer are to maintain a gallery security and thereby maintain quality visitor experience. Security Officers ensures the safety of the art, the visitors, the staff, and the building. 

Education and Experience:

  • Demonstrated success in providing organizational/asset security required

  • Demonstrated success in public or customer service required

  • CPR certification preferred

  • Associates or Bachelor’s degrees preferred

  • Knowledge or interest in art preferred

Responsibilities:

  • Patrols, monitors security cameras, and inspects galleries during regular museum hours and during special events to ensure the safety of collection and visitors

  • Secures galleries at opening and closing, checks building areas, and secures points of entry, exit, and interior areas

  • Knowledge of safety hazards and necessary safety precautions sufficient to be able to establish a safe working environment

  • Monitors video alarm systems to ensure security and safety

  • Enforces patron and staff compliance with general safety and security rules and regulations

  • Make recommendations for security procedures, system improvements, or changing needs for effective security and emergency procedures

  • Respond to emergencies or system alarms promptly to ensure security and safety

  • Coordinate with volunteer greeters during shifts to ensure gallery coverage and pertinent information sharing; respond to volunteer’s request for gallery or visitor assistance

  • Work with MMAM volunteers and staff to gather and record feedback/comments from visitors

  • Answer questions from visitors or guides visitors to MMAM staff 

  • Support visit experience by being a warm presence in the galleries, only engaging where needed or visitor-initiated

Physical Demands:

Ability to move through the galleries, observe, and support visitors for 7.5 hours at a time
