Amtrak rolls out a new era of rail: Borealis to double passenger rail service to Winona, Minnesota
The Minnesota Marine Art Museum (Winona, Minnesota) is excited to share details for Amtrak Borealis trains that will begin daily, round-trip service on May 21, 2024 and run from Union Depot in Saint Paul to Union Station in Chicago, doubling the capacity for rail travel between the two cities. Amtrak Borealis trains will make additional Minnesota-area stops in Red Wing, Winona, and La Crosse.
To increase ridership and awareness of this new service, the Minnesota Marine Art Museum will offer complimentary (free) museum admission for all ticketed Amtrak riders (on either the Borealis Train or the Empire Builder Train) who can show proof of same-(or prior) day rail service ticket, an offer of up to $40.00 for a group of four. The offer from MMAM runs June 1, 2024 through August 31, 2024.
“We are thrilled to increase access to the arts and all the extraordinary art experiences the Minnesota Marine Art Museum has to offer with this second service from Amtrak,” notes Scott Pollock, MMAM Executive Director. “Not only will this second passenger line offer greater mobility for our community residents, it allows visitors from all across the region to experience a dynamic and visually striking river community like Winona, Minnesota. We welcome thousands of visitors every month and we’re thrilled to have this environmentally sound method of travel open up coordinators between our urban counterparts like Minneapolis/St. Paul, Chicago, and Milwaukee, and our river communities like Winona, where you can experience a sense of regional culture in a natural setting, yet encounter some of the best national and international artists, writers, curators and creatives of our time inspired by water right here on the upper stretches of the Mississippi River.”
You can now plan same day round trip passenger rail service from Minneapolis / St. Paul to the Minnesota Marine Art Museum (2 hrs one-way), and/or an overnight roundtrip passenger rail service from Chicago (5 hrs, 44 mins one-way) and Milwaukee (3 hrs, 49 mins).
