Water Weaving Workshop

Successful Studio Arts Program Held May 2024

MMAM kicked off its Water Weaving workshop series with a colorful hands-on experience from Dr. Tammy Greer (Houma), and Weaving Water Workshop founder Sarah Nassif (European descent). Participants learned how to identify native and invasive plant species found along the Mississippi River, and how many of them can be found from Minnesota to Louisiana. Then workshop attendees worked with a spectrum of plant-based pigments and learned how to cultivate, harvest and dye textiles from the indigo plant -- a practice spanning cultures and traditions across the earth, connecting us to one another and our environment. Many of our students from the weekend volunteered to share their new knowledge with the public during a free indigo and weaving workshop that followed, making both a huge success!
