Description
Join us at the Minnesota Marine Art Museum on September 21 at 6:30 PM for a special pre-release party and book signing for Charlie Parr’s new fiction book Last of the Better Days Ahead, which comes out October 11 on Ramshackle Press. Readers are treated to a deep dive into the big picture of a group of Charlie’s songs. Like the old, well-hewn gospel songs, there is both darkness and light. There are tales of childhood, families, cantankerous uncles and aunts, and slightly lost individuals. Charlie will read a couple of stories from the book and also play songs from the record Last of the Better Days Ahead, released in 2021 on Smithsonian Folkways.
About Charlie Parr
An easily confused and very shy individual, Charlie Parr has been traveling around singing his songs ever since leaving Austin Minnesota in the 1980s in search of Spider John Koerner, whom he found about 100 miles north at the Viking Bar one Sunday night. The experience changed his life, made him more or less unemployable, and brings us to now: 13 recordings, 250 shows a year or more, 200,000 miles on a well broke in Kia, and a nasty fear of heights. Resonator fueled folk songs from Duluth Minnesota.
