About LAAMAR:
LAAMAR is the latest project led by Minneapolis-based singer, songwriter, saxophonist, and composer Geoffrey Lamar Wilson. Former frontman of Brooklyn-based Jus Post Bellum, Wilson is also known for his multilayered looped saxophone performances and catchy podcast ditties (Terrible, Thanks for Asking).
After unexpectedly bursting onto the scene in 2023 with his debut single “Home to My Baby,” LAAMAR has had a steady stream of in-demand performances and radio play across Minnesota. His engaging, humorous, and often intensely hushed solo performances led to opening slots for notable touring artists including Arlo Parks, Durand Jones, Dan Wilson, and Sunny War. Flowers blends Wilson’s idiomatic inspirations, bridging folk, soul, R&B, and country, with an ear toward racial and social justice issues and the shared human experience.
Backed by his dynamic and sharp-eared band, which can evolve to include saxophone, cello, and a rotating cast of guest vocalists, LAAMAR puts on a live show that is at once known to get folks dancing while alternatively leaving them in tears.
LAAMAR’s debut full-length In The Light finds the artist exploring the intersection of identity, masculinity, joy, and grief. In this new collection of songs, LAAMAR writes through the lens of fatherhood, personal growth, and self-discovery, expanding on the racial justice issues at the heart of Flowers.
In The Light explores the myriad ways in which empathy for oneself and others, and an increasing capacity for human connection, can tell stories that bring community together. With Nat Harvie (Low, Cole Pulice) in the producer’s chair, this new collection of songs and live show continues to expand the band’s musical direction, with bold production, densely layered instrumentation, and an ever-widening assortment of musical collaborators.
