Presented as part of MMAM’s commitment to explore how the illustrative arts impact people on a daily basis, Currents of Control explores the precise artistry that goes into creating the artwork behind the popular trading card game Magic: The Gathering. Represented by a drop of water, the color blue within the game represents knowledge, logic, perfection through intellect, and mental control. Original artwork created and featured in the game since its inception in the mid-1990s to the present will introduce visitors to the vital role that water plays in the game, and that original illustration plays in storytelling in the first, and longest running, collectible card game. Passionate fans will find familiar and new scenes, characters and landscapes, while novices will take a journey of discovery through a whole new fantasy world.
