H2OH! Art Quilts
September 5, 2019 - January 19, 2020
Water - it’s everywhere! The majority of the earth’s surface is covered by water, and more than half of the human body consists of water. But water also plays an essential role in our survival.
Organized by the Studio Art Quilt Associates (SAQA), and juried by California based artist and activist Linda Glass, H2Oh! Art Quilts highlights the impact of water on humans and the earth. SAQA received 521 artist entries for this exhibition, from which 34 were ultimately selected.
This exhibition encouraged artists to interpret one of the most vital, desired, powerful, sacred, and enjoyed resources on earth in their own unique, individual style, whether abstract, graphic, or representational.
SAQA is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to promote the art quilt through education, exhibitions, professional development, documentation, and publications. Art Quilts are defined as a creative visual work that is layered and stitched or that references this form of stitched layered structure.
Jurist and artist Linda Gass combines environmental activism and artmaking to bring awareness to land use and water issues in California. Using the lure of beauty, her colorful and highly textured stitched paintings encourage people to look at the hard issues we face.
