Seeking the Sublime: Works by Stephen Hilyard is the second exhibition in the MMAM’s 2015 Underwater Photography Series. It reveals an artist whose skill at making arresting images is matched by his ability to delve deeply into compelling ideas in search of  “the sublime”, a realm of grandeur and beauty that is often impossible to put into words. Superimposing images of mountaineers with his own underwater photography along with images of series of waves and waterfalls, Hilyard creates deceptive and surreal images that are grounded in his personal vision and symbolism. Stephen Hilyard is a professor of Digital Arts at the University of Wisconsin – Madison.
