1. Boathouse painting by Kar-Keat Chong
Born and raised in George Town, Penang, Malaysia, Kar-Keat Chong has honed his eye for color, light, and atmosphere since childhood by first drawing vibrant street and temple scenes under the tutelage of Penang masters, then later studying architecture in Minnesota.
This boathouse painting reflects Kar-Keat’s signature style: precise, confident strokes mixed with delicacy, an ability to conjure both clarity and mood. Through his plein air work and sketching, he captures not just what is seen, but what is felt. Here he creates that quiet moment of dawn or dusk by water, when the light shifts and everything softens. This original work is a chance to own not only a striking visual piece, but his first work signed with his NWS signature, an awarded signature membership by the National Watercolor Society.
FMV: $2000
2. Bridge painting by Joshua Cunningham
Joshua Cunningham, based in St. Paul, has spent over 20 years refining his craft in oil, and is a signature member of the American Impressionist Society. His work has won awards in regional, national, and international shows and has been featured in Plein Air Magazine.
Raised on 60 acres of woods, wetlands, and pastures in Isanti, Minnesota, his childhood among nature quietly infuses his landscapes. The bridge scene embodies this: strong structure, the interplay of light and shadow, and the lived sense of place. Cunningham’s brush translates changing skies and the passage of time where every moment of this piece captures more than just the view; it’s a meditation on memory, nature, and how we dwell in space.
