Second Saturday: Home Edition
Shaping Waters: The Mighty Mississippi
Saturday, August 8, 2020
Inspired by our collections, exhibitions, local artists, and talented staff and volunteers, virtual Second Saturdays offers some of our favorite components of the on-site program that you can do at home, plus some interactive elements that we could only offer online!
Our theme for August is “Shaping Waters: The Mighty Mississippi.” Here in Winona, we live on one of the most powerful and celebrated rivers in the world. The Mighty Mississippi has flowed for at least 5.6 million years, and this sacred river has inspired and influenced artists in a variety of ways.
We invite you to explore this great river through a variety of online activities you can enjoy in your home.
Art Kits available for Pick-Up at MMAM on August 8
Let’s get crafty! On Saturday, August 8th, starting at 10am, we will set out 100 art kits in front of the entrance to the Minnesota Marine Art Museum. We will have two different art projects- one designed for ages 7 and younger, and one designed for ages 8 and older. Please take one kit per child. These will be available on a first come, first serve basis- we are not taking reservations. Please know that we will be distributing 1180 of these art kits through the WAPS summer lunch program, so if your child gets a lunch, they will receive an age appropriate art kit as well. Make sure to send us pictures of your completed projects!
This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.
