Fish Printing Demonstration by Dwight Hwang
10:30am- 11:00am | Included with Admission
Don’t miss this incredible live demonstration of fish printing by master gyotaku artist Dwight Hwang. This special opportunity will allow you to learn about the tools, process, and even the philosophy of this 18th century Japanese method of printing fish.
More about Gyotaku: Classical Japanese gyotaku uses the same traditional materials when it was first recorded by Samurai in the mid-1800's, where an artistic record of a fish was created by brushing calligraphy ink onto the specimen and then having its image transferred over to paper. This method served as an alternative method to document a fisherman's catch when modern photography was yet to be readily accessible.
