Craft & Cocktail: Solar Prints
July 16, 2026 | 5p - 8p
Tuition: $55 | Member Rate: $45
This event is part of MMAM’s Third Thursday event series
About the workshop
Spend a summer evening experimenting with the magic of sunlight in this hands-on, outdoor workshop during our July Third Thursday Craft + Cocktail night. Over the course of three relaxed, creative hours, participants will explore sun-printing techniques using vibrant turmeric-based processes using found materials in the MMAM Gardens. Learn how natural light transforms simple materials into striking, one-of-a-kind prints as you layer botanicals, objects, and patterns to create your own compositions. Students will have the option to experiment with washes of other light-sensitive plant materials, such as cabbage, spinach, blueberries, strawberries.
No prior experience is needed, this workshop is all about curiosity, play, and discovery. We’ll guide you through the methods while leaving plenty of room to experiment and make the process your own. Your registration includes all materials plus a refreshing cocktail from Waterbar Cafe + Provisions to enjoy as you print, sip, and soak in a summer evening by the water.
*Students receive MMAM gallery admission and a 15% discount in the MMAM Shoppe on the day of their class. Participants in this workshop must be 21 years or older.
About the instructor:
Dan Lindermeier
Rooted in a lifelong creative practice, Dan has been making art from an early age, continuing a tradition shaped by generations of artists in his family.
A graduate of St. Mary's University, his practice first took form through steel and wood sculpture, laying a foundation in process, material, and craft. While sculpture remains an important influence, his work has expanded to embrace a wide range of media, guided by curiosity and experimentation.
In recent years, his focus has turned toward printmaking and the exploration of natural dyes. This path has led him to sun printing, where organic materials are used to create layered, light-driven compositions that reflect a deep connection to the natural world. His work balances technical knowledge with intuitive discovery, often blurring the line between controlled process and chance.
Outside the studio, his creativity is fueled by enjoying time outdoors along the banks and backwaters of the Mississippi River. Drawing inspiration from gardening, kayaking, hiking, fishing, rock hunting, live music, and the quiet beauty of natural environments.
