About the workshop

Unwind and unleash your creativity at our Craft + Cocktail Workshop on Thursday, June 12. Join Rochester-based wood specialist Kevin Ewing for an evening of hands-on artistry, where you’ll carve your very own river-inspired scene from a block of basswood. While you work, enjoy a refreshing cocktail expertly crafted by Water Bar, perfectly paired to complement the experience.

All materials and tools will be provided, and our instructor will guide you through the process from start to finish. If you don’t quite finish your carving during the event, Kevin will be on hand with recommendations on where to find tools for future projects or options to purchase the equipment you’ll need on site.

Whether you're an experienced woodworker or a first-timer, this workshop is the perfect way to explore your artistic side in a relaxed and social setting!

This class is for ages 21+ and includes one beverage from MMAM Water Bar (non-alcoholic options available) materials and guidance to print one bar towel, and admission to the Minnesota Marine Art Museum.

About the instructor

Kevin Ewing is a Rochester, Minnesota-based artist whose work seamlessly blends craftsmanship with nature-inspired design. Beginning his artistic journey in the 1980s with a small cabinet shop in the historic Winona Depot Freight House, Ewing soon found himself drawn to the art of carving, incorporating intricate details into his custom-built furniture.

Today, his work primarily takes the form of architectural elements and wall art, often exploring themes of nature—leaves, trees, and organic forms—through meticulously crafted relief carvings. In recent years, Ewing’s practice has been influenced by Norwegian design traditions, lending his pieces a distinct cultural and historical resonance.
