About the Craft + Cocktail Event

A beginners introduction to oil painting that ensures getting off to a successful start. Students will be provided with a curated kit of painting supplies, including a small canvas about 8x10 in size. We will complete a simple painting together on the canvas during the workshop to gain skills using the oil painting kit, which they will be able to take home. No hazardous solvents or paint thinners will be used during the class.

Student Experience Level Required: Beginners preferred

About the Instructor

“My goal is to create a place of rest and connection within our very anxious and disconnected world.”

I am very much inspired by the natural areas along the Mississippi River where I've lived my whole life. I create paintings using classical oil painting techniques and materials. My palette is based on natural earth pigments which are perfectly suited to depict the soft neutral colors of Midwestern light. My creative process is always a balancing act between meditative observation and purposeful invention and design. Artists of the past, particularly the American Tonalists, used deliberate choices of composition and color harmony to elicit emotional calm in the viewer; my work follows in this timeless tradition.
