About the workshop
Join artist and instructor, Kevin Ewing, for a one-day hands-on workshop that will introduce you to relief carving. You will learn to use a variety of carving tools to create your own relief carving in basswood. Add color with paint to finish your piece, or let the natural wood speak for itself. No prior carving experience necessary.
About the instructor
Kevin Ewing is a Rochester, Minnesota-based artist whose work seamlessly blends craftsmanship with nature-inspired design. Beginning his artistic journey in the 1980s with a small cabinet shop in the historic Winona Depot Freight House, Ewing soon found himself drawn to the art of carving, incorporating intricate details into his custom-built furniture.
Today, his work primarily takes the form of architectural elements and wall art, often exploring themes of nature through meticulously crafted relief carvings. In recent years, Ewing’s practice has been influenced by Norwegian design traditions, lending his pieces a distinct cultural and historical resonance.
